Value Stream Map Data
The numbers behind the map. Process time is what you pay people for; lead time is what the customer waits. The gap between them is the whole opportunity.
Walk the stream backwards from the customer and collect the data yourself. Cycle time is machine-to-machine on one piece. Inventory is what is actually sitting there right now, not what the system says.
Process cycle efficiency under 5% is normal for a first map and is not a failure — it is the size of the prize.
